The day that does not exist.

Magic- at the Orsay Museum (fromparis.com)
There is something magical about February 29. For most of the two thousand years that the world has operated on the Gregorian calendar, February 29 is the day that does not exist.

But today- it does.
What does one do on a day that does not exist?
While I spend the day trying to wrap my mind around the fact 2012 has 24 extra hours- I hope that YOU are planning something magical. It’s the day that does not exist, afterall. Nothing is impossible! You have fifteen hours left until Leap Day begins its four year orbit around the sun- that’s plenty of time for magic.

Happy Tweets

It seems that today was a good day for everyone. I was tied to Twitter like a newbie as my followers and friends shared the most happy tweets. Below are just a few that brightened my day- and I think may brighten yours.
  1. Cute alert: Tim Tebow takes little girl with tumor condition on date fit for a princess
  2. Happy national pancake day everyone!
  3. If you have a need to wear sunglasses, just face it, your day is going awesome
  4. How rare and wonderful is that flash of a moment when we realize we have discovered a friend.-William E Rothschild
  5. High on life
  6. This day is so nice. I wanna go on a picnic with someone
Love those happy tweets. What a magical, magical day.

Masked Mardi Gras

As the sun rises on this 21st day of February, we have quite the reason to celebrate.
TODAY is Mardi Gras. A day of excess and cheer. We get a free pass on food, there are drinks all around, diets go out the window, and a mask hides our true identity. At least that's what I hear (:
My celebration consists of cupcakes for breakfast and cookies every hour. (I'm taking that free pass on food very seriously.) There are no drinks on a school night; and my only mask is what you see here. But even in Oxford- Mardi Gras is an utterly magical day. Let the celebrations begin!

Thursday blues

Thank you, Pinterest!
I had a case of the Thursday blues. I write between two morning tests and an afternoon presentation. The sun is hiding. And everything seems a little blue.
But then I remember: my favorite color is blue. My eyes are blue. A Tiffany's box is blue. A butterfly is blue. The sky is blue. The water is blue. The center of a rainbow is blue. How could I forget?! I love the blues! Who wants a cure to the Thursday blues when blue is so perfectly beautiful!

Big on buttons.

Well, yes. Magical Simplicity got another makeover. THIS one is going to be around for a while. My favorite part of the makeover is the new buttons. On the right hand side, as you note- I am sure, are three HUGE buttons. One for facebook, one for twitter, and one for pinterest. These buttons are definitely over-sized when compared to a normal blog site, and that is on purpose.
Though Magical Simplicity is based here, at blogger, each of these social media sites offers a very unique and very important aspect to the overall idea. Magical Simplicity would not be what it is without them. SO, their importance is displayed in their size. At Magical Simplicity, we are big on buttons! Enjoy and explore the world of life's simple magic.

The newest addition!

Today, Magical Simplicity got a logo. I hope you love it as much as I do!!

I obviously was trying to keep with the simple theme. The "S" is meant to look as much like a swirly underline as it is an "s."

I tried out several color schemes- but chose to keep it really simple. I tried several fonts and ultimately (surprisingly) chose four different ones. Each element means something different, so I thought they each deserved their own font. The "M" got a font with serifs, because it is so important. The "S" got sans serif because it has multiple functions. The "magical" is in cursive because, well because that makes it magic! And "simplicity" is in a very simple font.

So, hooray! It is featured currently on Facebook- Cheers to our newest addition!

Cookie, cake, scone, banana perfection.

I am sitting here on this damp Saturday morning, sipping coffee and biting into THIS.

This is the banana chocolate chip cookie. And it is divine. I would call it a perfect mix between banana bread, cake, cookie, scone, and muffin.
The bananas were mixed with half a teaspoon of baking soda, so they became fluffy and took on a cake density.

Probably, I should not have cookies for breakfast (my mother never approved of my early morning sweet tooth). But honestly, I'm not sure what these are- besides delicious.

A girl's first role model

I am told that I am the spitting image of my mother. And those words make me the happiest girl in the world. My mother is the most beautiful lady I have ever met.

My mom is a dreamer. When we were young she taught me to climb the walls between our doorways. She broke her toe doing a head stand in my basement on her 45th birthday. She cried with me when I was sad. She laughed with me when I was happy. She made my childhood the best one I could ever imagine, and in my young adult life- she is equally lovely.

To be compared to her is the greatest compliment I could ever receive.

Make new friends, but keep the old

When I was in daisies, about fifteen years ago, we learned this song:

Make new friends
but keep the old,
One is silver and the other gold.
A circle is round,
it never ends,
And that's how long,
We will be friends.

In all honesty, this and the girl scout code are the only two things that I remember from Troop 13249 (and, since that is all I remember- you should know that I just made up that troop name).

Now at age six, all your friends are new- so I thought of course! We will be friends forever! Yes, a circle never does end! But now- at age 21- you might say I have realized the truth. Friends, are the world. My friends come in all ages, all genders, all forms. I still have friends from that ripe old age of six. And I have friends from now, that I met today. And I have friends from every stage in between.

Today, I happened to run into an old friend. When I was a freshman at Miami- I may have even called him my best friend. We gradually lost touch over time- but like all true friends- he comes back into my life when I need him. He was there to nurse my broken heart to health. He was there to celebrate the beginning of this blog- and he might have even been the first non-familial follower.

Long story short, friends are friends are friends. Who wouldv'e thought that the song I sang as a lanky, toe-headed six year old would ring true a decade and a half later. So raise a glass! Smile on a memory, here is to happy things.
